Update from Cosgrove!

August 6, 2018

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.  I was able to visit family in Boston this summer and take some time off to recharge and relax.  My daughter was in a play last weekend with other students from Cosgrove and now I couldn’t be more excited about next year.  I am proud to say that next year will be my 11th year as principal of a nationally recognized  “School to Watch.”  As a father of a 9th grade daughter and a soon to be freshman at the University of Buffalo, the Dale house has been busy preparing for school and major transitions that are less than a month away.   I wanted to send an update that might help everyone be ready for our opening.

Our orientations are coming together so that students can make sure that they are ready for opening day.  We will have plenty of students here to welcome and support our incoming 6th graders on August 27, so that they can get their picture taken for their ID, get their locker and schedule. I am hoping to have all of the protection plan and user agreements done by August 24thhttps://spencerport.revtrak.net/Laptop-User-Agreement-Protection-Plan/  We will also have people here to support families to complete the acceptable use policy and protection plan option for the laptop programs.

7th and 8th grade students will come in on the 28th of August from 8-11 a.m. and they must have their laptops, bags, and chargers.   An adult must accompany the students to orientation, as we will also be confirming the contact information for students.  7th and 8th graders will be able to carry backpacks this year due to the amount of walking in their schedule.

Some parents have noted that they have not been able to locate the letters that have been sent to them.  This happens in our house as well, so we have placed the following letters on our homepage: http://cosgrove.spencerportschools.org/parent__student_information/  Immunization, orientation and laptop letters can all be found here. In addition, we have made many changes and reduced our supply list knowing that students will have laptops with them during the day.  We will continue to make changes to reduce the costs for families based on our use of the laptops.  The link to the supply list can be found here http://cosgrove.spencerportschools.org/common/pages/DisplayFile.aspx?itemId=12873032

As we look ahead to other important dates, I wanted to remind 7th and 8th grade fall athletes that they must submit their athletic registration form and upload your information in Family ID.  Here is the link https://www.familyid.com/organizations/spencerport-csd-athletics Nursing staff will be at the high school from 8-11 a.m. on August 8th.  Many teams have several open spots.  I know that boys’ volleyball and football were looking for more players.  If you have questions about athletics, please call 349-5170.

Mark your calendars for Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 19th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.    Please join me to start the night in the auditorium.  I am hoping to communicate our goals and focus of bringing a blended learning model of integrating technology into our instruction and also a focus on improved student achievement.

I look forward to working with you and your child this year.  If you need anything, please email me at [email protected] or call me at 349-5302.

Sincerely,
Ned Dale
