I just wanted to send a quick update to let you know what is happening around Cosgrove.  Students and staff are off to an amazing start.  If you want to recognize one of our teachers, please click the link: https://tinyurl.com/jgvbxrv or email me at [email protected]

Schoology parent portal letters were mailed not that long ago to 6th grade parents.  I am asking that all parents make this connection as soon as possible to see the incredible learning that your children are displaying every day.  In addition, I want to make sure every parent has their access ready in Infinite Campus because five week grades will be posted, but not mailed.  Report cards at ten weeks are mailed, but these interim reports provide students a heads up of where they stand.  Students should be checking their grade weekly.  Students in 6th grade learned about Infinite Campus Please contact Linda Sauter if you have any questions at [email protected] or 349-5324.

Letters just went out to 8th grade parents for the Boston Trip Parent Night.  This information session will be helpful for parents to get all of the information necessary to make the decision about whether or not they are going on the trip.  We have worked hard to make some adjustments and improve this year’s trip destinations and overall itinerary.   We will be using a new travel agent and bus company as well.  I think the tour of Fenway Park will be a true highlight, as well as the dinner cruise.  Students will have a great experience and we tried to keep the cost reasonable and accessible for all families.

On, Wednesday, October 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium, Spencerport will be hosting a parent night titled, “It Didn’t Start with Heroin.”   This panel discussion is a collaborative effort with the Ogden Police and other panelists so that we continue our discussion about adolescent addiction.  Our Drug and Alcohol Counselor, Kate Zobkiw can answer any questions that you may have by calling 349-5245.  Cosgrove will be having some grade level appropriate discussions with our students during Red Ribbon Week later in October, as well as dress up days to symbolize our stance against drugs and alcohol.

Lastly, I wanted to share how impressed I have been with our teachers’ instruction.  I want to continue to share examples of quality lessons that I have seen as we visit classes throughout the year.  Mrs. Hondorf’s students were able to learn about irony by seeing it in cartoons, video clips, pictures, and within the text from an author.  Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. VanDeWeghe showed the importance of following sequential steps in 6th grade math.  They taught the order of operations and connected to a student that has specific routines when they get up and get ready for school.  Mrs. Leone and Mrs. Corelli had their students finishing up their work on integers so that they could get them ready for the fractions and decimals unit.

Over the past week, I have also been visiting modified games and teams.  I am so impressed with  our athletes, but also their sportsmanship.  The coaches should be commended for putting in so much time with our student athletes.  I hope your child was able to enjoy Homecoming week as much as we did.

If you need anything, please reach out to me via email at [email protected] or by phone at 349-5302.

Sincerely,

Ned Dale
