Wow, I can’t believe that our first five week reports are ready in Infinite Campus for everyone to review with your child.   As you know, 5 week reports are not mailed, but they must be accessed through the parent or student portal.  We will certainly be following up with students based on these reports to ensure that they are staying after school with their teachers on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  I am firm about our Academic Eligibility Policy for all of our student athletes and extra-curricular activities.  If you are having any trouble accessing Infinite Campus, please call 349-5324 and speak with Linda Sauter.

On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, Spencerport will be hosting a panel discussion on youth substance abuse.  The experts in prevention and intervention will be sharing some updated statistics and significant impact that substance use can have on our children.  The title, “It Didn’t Start with Heroin” is very fitting and should reflect the trends we are seeing in every Monroe County community is being impacted.  The statistics are overwhelming about the impact of prescription pain medication and the subsequent opioid crisis that we now face.  In the USA, there was enough opioid pain medication prescribed for every adult in our country to get around the clock medications for one month. Kate Zobkiw, Spencerport Chemical Dependency Specialist will be continuing her efforts to raise awareness, support prevention and also intervene with students and families that ask for assistance or demonstrate a need for support.

I also wanted to give a shout out to the student athletes.  I have loved visiting the games over the past two weeks and will continue to see more. The Modified B Boys Volleyball team was neck and neck yesterday with against Gates.  The sportsmanship during soccer and volleyball have also been impressive!  A huge thank you to the coaches for supporting our students to improve their play, but also for being a role model for our students.

We have had a great start to the year and I want to thank our staff for their support of our students.   If you haven’t heard the news, Mr. Matt Amoroso was recognized by New York State as being a Master Teacher.  He is our second Master Teacher at Cosgrove.  Mr. Swanson, 8th grade Technology is also recognized as a Master Teacher.   If you want to thank a staff member, consider recognizing them for their efforts by completing this link:http://tinyurl.com/Spencerport-Stars Without our teachers and staff, we could have an amazing school that is now recognized throughout our state and country as a School to Watch!

Have a great week!
