Cosgrove Update 8/29
Published on Aug 29, 2019 17:02

Hello from Cosgrove!

I hope this email finds you well. For people who are new to this e-news – thank you for signing up. I will send bi-weekly updates throughout the school year in an effort to keep everyone in the loop. Please do not respond directly to this email, as I do not receive it. Please email me directly with any questions or concerns ([email protected])

I cannot tell you how excited we are for students to return to school on September 4th. Countless hours have been spent cleaning and preparing the school for next week.

Orientation this week was a success as students received their schedule, locker information, took their ID picture, and had their computer checked out, and had a chance to walk their schedule. Our 6th grade students will receive their computer during their second meeting of Library/Info tech. The building is open until 8pm for the remainder of this week, and next Tuesday, for students to come into the building and practice opening their locker/walking their schedule.

I want to communicate some important reminders/updates as we head into the first days of school:

  • Advisement – Flex has been renamed as advisement. This is a time for students to complete assignments and see teachers for extra help. During first 10-15 minutes of advisement, each student will read silently on their own. Please help us by encouraging your child to bring a book with them to school, or to check one out from our library.

  • 7th and 8th grade athletes – Athletes will be asked to place their bags for sports in room 101 B or C this year (next to the greeter’s desk, but the technology help office). Students will place items here in the morning and then pick them up after school. Items will remain locked during the day. During our opening day presentations to students, we will provide a reminder of this new procedure.

  • Dress Code – While the calendar will soon read September, often times the weather still feels like July. In an effort to ensure a productive learning environment, I am asking for your help with our dress code. Short length is the primary concern. We ask all students to make sure shorts pass the fingertip test – that is- shorts should be longer than a person’s fingertips when arms are at their side. Any student who is in violation of the dress code will be sent to the office and asked to change. Students will not be allowed to go back to class until their clothes meet the dress code. Please help us by ensuring that your child meets dress code before leaving for school each morning.

  • Activity period begins on Monday, September 16. During this time, students are encouraged to join a club/stay after for extra help. Activity period is on every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

  • Curriculum night – as an FYI – curriculum night is Wednesday, September 18 at 6:30. More information to follow, but I wanted to provide you with the date in advance.

  • Homecoming – Homecoming week is September 23-27. The themes of each day will be announced soon. This is an exciting week at Cosgrove and one that you child will enjoy. Our homecoming pep assembly will be held on Friday, September 27 at the end of the day.

It was great to see everyone at orientation this week and I look forward to welcoming students back to school next week. Please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions or concerns.

Enjoy the holiday weekend!
