Cosgrove update for Feb. 16

February 16, 2018

It has been the best week at Cosgrove!  We have raised almost $1500 hundred dollars for the Bill Cook Foundation.  The students must really want to put a pie in my face! Students will be fired up for this afternoon’s wacky games at the 10th  Annual Groundhog Olympics!  We will be starting our games at about 1:30.

I wanted to announce one big change starting after break.  Students were told today that they will be able to carry backpacks when they return from break.  We are doing this on a trial basis to see if we can improve the “Be There and Be Ready” component of the Cosgrove High Five.  To support our students, we created a video that they were able to see and teach them how to use them and what we will expect from our students.  Our students have noted that they would prefer this method in lieu of their computer bags and their supplies.  Some of our classrooms are small at Cosgrove and students are going to be expected to follow the direction of the teachers and staff on where to put them.   When heading to Physical Education, students should leave their phones and backpacks in their lockers so that their valuables are safe.  The PBIS Team and students did an amazing job on this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ9VhU1JCV0&feature=youtu.be

After the tragedy in Florida, Mr. Sorbera, Mr. Centola and I will be reviewing our procedures over break.  I recently toured the building with the new C Zone Captain, Mr. Doug Comanzo of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.  We have conducted a lockdown and eight fire drills so far this year.   We have scheduled more emergency drills after break so that our students and staff know the procedure.  All of our staff has an emergency handbook with our building’s procedures.  In addition, we will continue our discussions about bullying, cruelty and the need for compassion and acceptance.   As we head into break, I know I am looking forward to spending time with my family.  I hope that you are able to take some time to with your child as well.

I hope by now you have enjoyed the video and can support us with this change.   It is an honor to be the principal of such an amazing school.   Please contact me at [email protected] or by calling 349-5302.

Sincerely,

Ned Dale
