To Parents or Guardians of Students at Cosgrove:

This letter is to inform everyone that at approximately 9:15 this morning, we conducted a hold in place drill and drug dog sweep with the assistance of Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.  The goal of the search was to ensure that Cosgrove remains a drug free and safe environment where student learning is the goal. Prior to the lockdown, an announcement was made for students to clear the halls and be in the direct supervision of an adult.  The sweep lasted approximately 25 minutes and no instructional time was lost.  Please know that I had worked closely our Director of Security, Toby Toscano and with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department to coordinate this search.  We will continue to practice these emergency drills and sweeps to ensure that our students and staff know how to respond and what procedures to follow in the event of an emergency.  Student and staff safety are my top priority.

As a reminder, our school district instituted a Confidential Tip Line for our students and community within the last few years. The TIP line, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, provides callers an opportunity to report activities such as: bullying, drug abuse, physical or sexual abuse, weapons, or threats in our schools. “Ensure Safety for All…Make the Call” at 1-877-474-9403 (please remember that there is no need to leave your name or number).

If you have any questions about today’s hold in place drill and sweep of the building, please feel free to contact me at 349-5302.

                                                                        Sincerely,                                                          Ned Dale
