September 1, 2018

I am so excited to enter my 11th year as Cosgrove’s Principal!  It is a true honor to serve the Spencerport community of a nationally recognized “School to Watch!”  We will be starting on Wednesday for all students at 8:00 a.m.  Thank you to every parent, grandparent and neighbor that supported our students by bringing them in and making sure that they obtained their schedule, locker and student ID.  We have a make-up day scheduled for student pictures and the building is open on Tuesday for students to walk their schedule one last time.  We are ready!

Curriculum night is scheduled for Cosgrove on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 starting at 6:30 in the auditorium.  Students will receive a letter in class on Monday the 17th with more information when they return.  They will also complete a draft schedule for all parents to follow that night.  This is an exciting event that will allow everyone to hear what their child will learn throughout the year.  We will be using a blended model of integrating technology this year, as well as the good old paper and pencil method.

Last year, our PBIS team had been working with our faculty on our efforts to make sure we teach students the expectations and then model them. I will be stressing our red, yellow, and green light policy of cell phone use within the classrooms and our school.  Teachers will be strongly enforcing their expectations.  At times, phones can be used by the teachers for instructional purposes.  If a teacher asks a student to put their phone away, we will expect them to do it.  We will have a visual to prompt and remind our students about the expectations.  With the warm weather still present, I wanted to remind our students and families about our dress code.  As your son or daughter picks out their first day outfit.  Please remind them that:

  • Hats are not allowed.
  • Shirt straps must be wider than two fingers put together (we don’t add straps together)
  • Shorts should go past student’s fingertips while at their side. (Respectable length)
  • Underwear should not be visible at any point throughout the day.

As a father of a 9th grade daughter, I know it is hard to find clothes that meet this criteria, but I also know it is possible.  Our overall goal is to have respectable clothing for boys and girls.   In addition, food and drinks will not be allowed in classrooms or hallways.  Student can keep a bottled water in their locker.  Signs will be posted to help remind students and our entire school will have an overview with the principals on the first day.   I will also post the slideshow for everyone to see and refer to.

Our school continues to improve every year and our students, parents, and staff are the reason why.  Thank you for all of your support.

Sincerely,

Ned Dale
