Update from Cosgrove

April 13, 2018

Our students jumped right back into the swing of things.  ELA NYS assessments are done for the year and the NYS Math exams are in May.  I can’t wait to meet the new families of our incoming 6th graders this upcoming Monday evening.  Our students will be giving tours and I hoping for any advice or comments that you have for new parents to Cosgrove.  We have a lot to be proud of here at Cosgrove and being one of 27 schools designated as a School to Watch is just one of them.

Just prior to break, our 6th grade students enjoyed listening and learning to over twenty different presenters during Career Day.   Dan Milgate, Superintendent was here to tell his story about how he got started in Spencerport and what he looks for in candidates and for our students.  He taught our students the 7 P’s- Proper Prior Planning Prevents Pretty Poor Performance. He reinforced the need for students to work hard, be great communicators and to be confident with their abilities.  Our counselors did such a great job coordinating this day for our students.

Our College and Career Committee has also coordinated a college tour for our 8th grade students on April 25th.  I was amazed to hear how many students have never been on a college campus.  Mr. Sorbera and the 8th grade class will go to the University of Rochester to hear about what it takes to get in this highly selective institution, as well as see their amazing campus.  We think it is important for students to see a campus, as they have seen technical education options last year when they went to BOCES WeMoCo.

We have our Talent Show on Friday that was rescheduled from the previous snow day from 7:00-8:15 p.m.  We ask that parents come with their children.  I just love seeing the talents of our students that may often not be seen within our typical program.  Students take an incredible risk and leap of faith by participating in our show.  We look forward to you joining us.

Lastly, our 3rd quarter report cards will be mailed next week.  Please review your child’s progress and reach out to any faculty member to help you ensure that you as a team are meeting their goals.  The school and parent partnership is so important.

Sincerely,
Ned Dale
